As we age, our bodies sometime develop physical pain that we can often attribute to inflammation. From that diagnosis we generally have three options for dealing with it.
The first is to instantly relieve our suffering with over-the-counter products like ibuprofen or acetaminophen, which, for a time, will provide the relief we seek but is short-lived.
The second is to learn how to reduce the inflammation in our bodies using ingredients like turmeric, ginger, and garlic daily, as more long-term approach for relief.
The third is to begin to identify what we might be unwittingly doing that contributes to the production of toxins in our bodies and eradicate the inflammation.
Our emotional well-being is really no different.
We can seek instant relief from our less desirable emotions with things like alcohol, drugs, or any other form of pleasure, to not feel what we don’t want to feel.
We can then try focusing on practices like journalling, meditation, and yoga, and create safe spaces for ourselves, which will definitely help in reducing our emotional flare-ups to create some emotional balance and stability in our lives.
Eventually, however, we need to turn our focus to what might be contributing to the perpetually inflamed emotions we have inside and ask ourselves a brave question: “Could it be me?”
